Nigeria Coach Gernot Rohr Takes Swipe At Nigerian Local League Players

Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has taken a swipe at the quality of the Nigerian league and its players following criticisms he has ignored players from the local league.
Amid criticisms for his failure to involve more home-based players for the friendly match against Senegal, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has replied that the country’s best players are in Europe, and not in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
“Our best players are playing in Europe,” Rohr said in a radio interview.

“Senegal, who we played against, had no local player. The big teams don’t have local players.

“Next week I will be in Nigeria to watch some games, I have watched some league games already, but the players there are not better than what we already have.

“The quality of the clubs can be seen from the African competitions (in which FC IfeanyiUbah and Wikki Tourists crashed out of the Confederation Cup and Rangers and Rivers United were also eliminated from the Champions League).

“They will feature in the CHAN which is handled by Salisu (Yusuf) and Imama (Amakpakabo) and we will see them there.”
