Arsenal will welcome Bayern Munich at the Emirates for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash tonight.
Arsenal vs Bayern Munich
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16, Second Leg
Date: Tuesday, 7th March 2017
Kick-Off: 20:45 - Nigerian Time
Venue: Emirates Stadium, London.
Seeking for their first quarter finals since 2010, the Gunners were disgraced in the first leg after a second-half collapse against the Bavarians as they suffered a heartbreaking 5-1 defeat at Allianz Arena.

Historically, only 3 teams have ever upturned a 4-goal deficit from the first leg defeat and Arsenal are hoping to be the fourth team to do so.

And the question is, can Wenger’s men recover and progress to the next round, given to their poor attacking play over the last few weeks?

The north Londoners suffered another devastating defeat on the weekend. This time in the Premier League fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.

For Bayern, they are almost in the quarter finals of the Champions League with their 4 goals advantage over Arsenal.

All they need now is just a draw or to avoid losing with as much as 4 goals to qualify them into the next stage.

Arsenal -  Mesut Ozil will definitely miss out against many of his compatriots after Wenger ruled him out due to the German’s illness. However, all eyes will be on Alexis Sanchez after several reports claimed the Chilean had fought with the manager and players which was one of the reasons he was dropped to the bench for the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend.  Although,  Wenger has debunked the rumour.

Santi Cazorla remains sidelined indefinitely with an ankle problem while Mohamed Elneny will also miss out on the fixture.

Bayern - Bayern captain Philipp Lahm is suspended after picking up a caution in the first leg, but Carlo Ancelotti will likely start Mats Hummels, Xabi Alonso, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery after resting the quartet during Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over Cologne over the weekend.

  • This is the 12th meeting between this two great teams, with all their meetings being between 2000 and 2017.
  • Bayern hold the edge over Arsenal with six wins and just three defeats in that time, including back-to-back 5-1 victories in their last two meetings.
  • Arsenal will be aiming for a 3rd home win against Bayern in this game having previously won twice against them in London and lost twice.
  •  Arsenal beat Bayern the last time the two sides met at the Emirates stadium, with goals from Olivier Giroud and Ozil handing the Gunners a 2-0 win in last season’s group stages.
  • This could be the fourth time Bayern eliminate Arsenal from this stage of the competition, having done so in 2004-05, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Arsenal’s last 5 games (UEFA Champions League).
  • Only three teams have ever overturned a four-goal first-leg loss in the Champions League.

Arsenal 4-1 Bayern : This game promises to be entertaining and tough for both sides, but don't forget that Bayern haven’t been good in their recent away games in Champions League. Bayern have won only 3 of their last 13 away games in Champions League and lost 7.

They winless in their last 8 knockout games they have drawn 4 and lost 4. So, I see Arsenal taking this game to extra-time.
