Barca's Leo Messi And Father Jorge Sentenced To 21 Months In Prison

Barcelona star and his father have been found guilty of tax fraud...
Reports are flying out of Spain that Lionel Messi and father, Jorge Horacio Messi, have been found guilty of tax fraud.

Messi was accused of defrauding £3.5million in taxes between 2007 and 2009 after not paying £8.7m of image rights.

The decision of the Spanish Supreme Court was upheld, meaning the Messi’s were sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Messi, however, has always pleaded his innocence.

The Barcelona talisman is unlikely to face prison time, as sentences under 2 years are usually suspended by the court if there are no prior offenses. However, he will be forced to pay a fine of around £1.7m.

His father Jorge was also given a 21-month sentence, but his has been reduced to 15.

Jorge Messi was originally ordered to pay a fine of £1.3m, but that has been reduced to £1.1m.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s team-mates, Neymar and Javier Mascherano, have also been been accused of tax fraud, with the former ordered to stand trial.
