Kelechi Iheanacho Scores As Nigeria Play 1-1 Draw With Corsica

Nigeria conceded an early goal via a penalty and also equalised with a penalty.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored from the penalty spot as Nigeria came from behind to draw 1-1 with the tiny French island of Corsica in an international friendly in Ajaccio on Friday night.

The Super Eagles were however without most of their first team players who were missing through the club commitments, injuries and visa issues.

With Corsica not a member of UEFA and FIFA, the friendly match was not recognised and was just an opportunity for Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr to try out new players.

The Corsicans led the Super Eagles 1-0 at half time after the tiny French island scored early in the first half of the international friendly.

Corsica the early goal from a penalty after Ebuehi handled the ball in the box.

The Super Eagles, looking for a quick response got their chance to equalise but Onyekuru could not score with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Nigeria dominated the game and Ibrahim Alhassan headed the ball over the ball from a fine cross from Echiejile. Ahmed Musa also missed from close range in the 35th minute after Alhassan’s effort was spilt by the Corsica goalkeeper.

Despite having much of the ball and better chances, the Super Eagles trailed 1-0 at half-time.  They continued the second half the same way they finished the first.

MFM FC star Stephen Odey was brought in the 60th minute while his club teammate Sikiru Olatunbosun joined him on the pitch some minutes later.

Oghenekaro Etebo was brought down in the box and Kelechi Iheanacho scored from the resultant penalty to level for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles will be leaving Corsica for Paris where they have another friendly date against Togo on June 1.
