Nigeria To Get A New Captain In Corsica Friendly Tie

The Super Eagles pose for pictures during their first training session in Ajaccio, ahead of the friendly with Corsica.
The Super Eagles will have a new captain when they take on Corsica in an international friendly with left back Elderson Echiejile expected to lead the three-time African champions out when the game kicks off in the tiny French island.

Echiejile, 29, will be the most experienced player and the longest-serving when the Super Eagles line up against Corsica in Ajaccio.

He has represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels, as well as playing at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

He made his Eagles debut in 2009 against France in Saint Etienne and has since scored two goals in over 50 caps.

He was at the 2010 World Cup, but missed the 2014 edition in Brazil after a long-term injury during a pre-tournament warm-up match.

This past season he has been on loan from AS Monaco first at Belgian club Standard Liege and then Sporting Gijon in the Spanish La Liga.
