Date: Wednesday, 22nd November 2017
Kick-Off Time: 20:45 - Nigerian Time
Venue: St. Jakob-Park (Basel).
The race for the second spot is hot as Basel must play to take maximum points from their remaining two games. This won’t be easy as they will be going away to Benfica after the home fixture against the English club.

The RotBlau, who started their campaign with a 3-0 humbling defeat at Old Trafford, bounced back with a thumping 5-0 home win against Benfica before bagging a crucial 2-0 away win at CSKA. Then on matchday five, they were defeated 1-2 by CSKA and that brought them to a tight spot.

United on the other hand, won all their four matches in the group and sit at top with 12 points. They just need to avoid a defeat in one of their remaining two games to qualify as group leaders.

Jose Mourinho’s team are one of the best defensive units in this season’s UEFA Champions League after having let just 1 goal so far. Meanwhile, they have plenty of firepower upfront and netted 10 goals in total.

Basel - Coach Rapahel Wicky will be without suspended midfielder Taulant Xhaka for this match. He also will be without striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel and goalkeeper Germano Vailati due to injuries. Right back Omar Gaber is sick, so he will miss out as well.

Manchester United - Manager Jose Mourinho welcomed back striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, center midfielder Paul Pogba, and center back Marcos Rojo to the squad on Saturday. He still will be without center back Phil Jones and defensive midfielder Michael Carrick for this match, though.

Basel have two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five matches.

Man United have four wins and a loss in their last five matches.

Manchester United 4-2-3-1 football formation

  • Basel and Manchester United have played five times so far, with United winning twice, drawing twice, and losing just once to the Swiss side.
  • They won 3-0 at Old Trafford back in September.
  • Manchester United have a strong record against Basel after bagging 2 wins and 2 draws from the five meetings so far.
  • However, the Red Devils do not have sweet memories from their visits to Basel. They drew and lost 1 each during the two fixtures.
  • Especially, the last one in 2011 is a forgettable outing, which knocked them out of the group phase with a 2-1 defeat.
  • Manchester United haven’t met another Swiss team in UEFA branded competitions.Basel’s record against English Premier League clubs is a poor one – 6 wins from 23 matches, 8 draws and 13 losses.
  • But a tad decent at home as they bagged 5 wins and 2 draws from 12, losing in 5.

Basel 1-2 Man United - Without doubt, this is going to be a tough match. But the Red Devils will prove to be a handful for the men in Red and Blue.
