Report: New Messi Clause Demand Stalling Barca Deal Agreement

Claims of Lionel Messi settling on a new contract with Barcelona are being disputed.
The Argentine's current deal expires in June, with Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu insisting an agreement over a contract was watertight and only the date for Messi's signing ceremony needed to be settled.

However, Spanish paper Diario Gol says a new demand from the Messi camp is stalling negotiations.

The midfield ace is now insisting on an escape clause be included in the contract.

Messi's request has taken aback Barca directors, with the concern being they'll leave themselves open to a repeat of the Neymar saga just this summer.

However, with time ticking and Messi being free to sign a pre-contract with any foreign team from January 1, Barca find themselves backed into a corner.

Bartomeu is prepared to meet the demand, with Messi's representatives insisting the option is only there so to help smooth any exit negotiations for when the time comes for him to return to Argentine club Newell's Old Boys.
