"Absolute madness!" Ex- Liverpool Player Slams Virgil van Dijk Transfer Fee

The news that Virgil van Dijk will join Liverpool in January for £75million (N35.7 billion)has been labelled as ‘absolute madness’ by former Liverpool star Stan Collymore.
It was revealed yesterday that Southampton have agreed a fee with Liverpool for the Dutch centre-back.
An official announcement from both clubs has been made with the deal to be concluded on January 1.

The fee for Van Dijk, who joined Southampton from Celtic in 2015 for £13million (N6billion), will be a world record for a defender.

And Collymore is staggered at the fee.
"Even the biggest clubs will be pricing themselves out of the market soon," he wrote on Twitter.

"Absolute madness."

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has also expressed his shock at the price tag.
"It’s a lot of money isn’t it," he told Sky Sports.

"I’ve not seen a lot of Southampton recently but I’m not sure he’s playing that well.

"He’s a good defender. They’ll need to get him back to his best for that money.

"I’m not surprised by the transfer but that’s an incredible amount of money."
He added that ignoring the money, Van Dijk is an ideal addition to Liverpool’s squad:
"Liverpool need defenders and that’s the way the market is. When it comes to bigger matches they do stress quite easily and can crack."
