Newcastle Set To Sign Ex- Real Madrid Goalkeeper Casillas

According to Spanish outlet AS Newcastle are lining up a move for Iker Casillas as the goalie is set to quit Portuguese side Porto in January.
New Dragoes boss Sergio Conceicao has been playing Jose Sa instead to great effect, with Porto topping the table, having conceded just five all season.

And AS report that 36-year-old former Real Madrid keeper Casillas is looking to leave in January in search of game time, with English side Newcastle United a viable option, although it is understood they would not be willing to match Casillas' £95,000 (N43m)-per-week Porto wage packet.

Casillas is still a big earner from the contract he moved to Portugal on when leaving cash-rich boyhood club Real two years ago.

Newcastle boss Benitez wants to bring a third senior goalkeeper to St James' Park with a plan to send Freddie Woodman out on loan in January.

Newcastle tried to sign Willy Caballero – now of Chelsea – and also looked at Napoli's Pepe Reina in the summer.Casillas would fit the bill in a similar vein to those options.
