Pique Signs New Barca Deal Until 2022

Resurgent Barcelona were given a fresh boost today when key defender Gerard Pique signed a contract extension until 2022.
Having recently lost Brazilian superstar Neymar in an aggressive contract buy out by Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona have put a €500m (N213.8billion) buy-out clause in Pique's new contract.

Pique has spent 17 years at Barcelona, initially joining as a youth in 1997 before returning from a four-year spell at Manchester United in 2008.

Pique, who turns 31 next month, has won it all in a period of dominance for Barcelona.

Signing for the club in the first year of the Pep Guardiola era, he has won six La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, five Copa del Reys and three Club World Cups.

Pique, who has earned 94 international caps since 2009, was also a key part of the Spain side which won the World Cup in 2010 and Euro 2012.

He remains a key figure at the heart of Barca's defence, making 27 appearances this season for the La Liga leaders.
