Besiktas came through the group stages with four wins and two draws, despite facing Porto, Monaco and RB Leipzig in what had seemed a tough group to qualify from.

But topping the group has not rewarded them with an 'easier' game in the last-16 - a trip to Bavaria to face red-hot Bayern Munich among the worst they could have asked for.

Bayern have won 13 straight games, and had the luxury of resting all their star players last time out, as they beat Wolfsburg, meaning no excuses of fatigue or fixture congestion will be allowed to sneak in.

Since Heynckes took over, after a difficult start to the campaign, Bayern have been simply unstoppable in all competitions - they finished the group stage on a high with the win against Paris Saint-Germain, and Besiktas should be concerned ahead of tonight's tie.

For their part, the Turkish team are also in decent enough form - unbeaten in eight matches now - but they have drawn their last two away games and lost top scorer Cenk Tosun in January.

Bayern Munich - Having been rested at the weekend as they beat Wolfsburg, manager Jupp Heynckes is likely to recall Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski, David Alaba and Thomas Muller on tonight. Manuel Neuer remains sidelined, but Thiago Alcantara's return means Bayern otherwise have a full-strength squad to choose from.

Besiktas - Alvaro Negredo dropped to the bench for the 1-1 draw at Konyaspor at the weekend, as Vagner Love made his first league start for the club on the back of his double strike against Kardemir Karabukspor. He could well keep the Spaniard out again on Tuesday. Ricardo Quaresma also dropped to the bench, but he is likely to return in place of Jermain Lens.

Bayern extended their winning run to 13 games with their second consecutive 2-1 win at the weekend. Wolfsburg were winning 1-0 at half-time, but Robert Lewandowski stepped off the bench to score a 90th-minute winner after Sven Wagner's earlier equaliser. It followed victory by the same scoreline in their most recent home match, against Schalke, while they have also won 6-0 away at Paderborn and 2-0 at Mainz so far this month.

Besiktas are unbeaten in their last seven matches, winning five and drawing two. They were held to a 1-1 draw at Konyaspor on Friday, however, having stormed to a 5-0 win at home to Kardemir Karabukspor the previous week. The draw was their second consecutive league draw away from home, however, having also drawn 2-2 at Bursaspor in recent weeks.

Bayern (4-2-3-1) - Ulreich; Kimmich, Hummels, Boateng, Alaba; Vidal, Javi Martinez; James, Coman, Muller; Lewandowski.

Besiktas (4-2-3-1) - Fabri; Gokhan Gonul, Pepe, Medel, Adriano; Hutchinson, Oguzhan; Quaresma, Talisca, Babel; Vagner Love

  • Bayern Munich and Besiktas last met more than 20 years ago, when the German side won 2-0 in both their home and away fixtures in the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League group stage.
  • Bayern’s only other meeting with a Turkish club can be dated back to 1972 when they met Galatasaray in the European Champions Clubs’ Cup. They won 6-0 at home to progress further after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • For Besiktas, this will be their 10th meeting with a German Bundesliga club.
  • They haven’t excelled well in the previous 9 meetings with only 2 wins and a draw coming during the period, losing a massive 6.
Bayern 3-1 Besiktas —   Bayern will expect to take a commanding lead in this first leg - they have the form, the firepower and the experience to do exactly that. So, in-form Bayern are huge favourites for tonight's game
