UCL: Sevilla vs Man United Match Preview, Possible Lineups And Prediction

Manchester United are favourites to beat Sevilla, but they have been warned not under-estimate the Spanish team and would do well to heed that advice.
Sevilla vs Manchester United
UEFA Champions League
Date: Wednesday, 21st February 2018
Kick-off at 20:45 - Nigerian Time
Venue: Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán (Sevilla).
Sevilla have already drawn twice with English Premier League opposition, coming from 3-0 down to draw with Liverpool in the group stages after a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

United, meanwhile, lost to Real Madrid in their only previous match against a La Liga team this season, and with Paul Pogba ill they could be missing their star man in Seville.

Sevilla - Simon Kjaer, Sebastian Corchia and former Manchester City man Nolito are all injured. Miguel Layun is ineligible for the UEFA Champions League, but new signings Guilherme Arana, Roque Mesa and Sandro Ramirez are all in contention.

Manchester United - Eric Bailly's return from injury to step off the bench against Huddersfield in the FA Cup at the weekend is timely for Man United, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo set to miss the trip to Sevilla. Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera are also fit again, but Marouane Fellaini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic remain sidelined. Paul Pogba missed the Huddersfield game through illness, and Jose Mourinho admitted he was unsure if the Frenchman will recover in time.

Sevilla have bounced back well from their 5-1 defeat to Eibar at the start of the month, winning all three game since. A 2-0 win at home to Leganes confirmed their Copa del Rey progress, before Pablo Sarabia’s goal was enough to see off Girona in their most recent home match. Last weekend, Sarabia scored again - after Wissam ben Yedder’s opener - as Sevilla won 2-1 at Las Palmas.

Man United have lost two of their last four matches, with only two 2-0 wins against Huddersfield - at home in the Premier League and away in the FA Cup on Saturday - to their credit. They have lost their last two away games in the Premier League, 2-0 at Wembley against Tottenham and 1-0 at Newcastle.

Sevilla (4-2-3-1) - Sergio Rico; Pizarro, Lenglet, Mercado, Escudero; N Zonzi, Banega; Navas, Correa, Vazquez; Ben Yedder.

Manchester United (4-1-4-1) - De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw; Matic; Sanchez, Herrera, Mata, Rashford; Lukaku.

  • This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
  • Sevilla have been in Manchester before, however, losing 2-1 at Manchester City two seasons ago before a 3-1 home defeat.
  • They drew 2-2 and 3-3 with Liverpool in their most recent matches against English Premier League opposition, meanwhile, during this year's group stages.
  • Manchester United’s last match against Spanish opponents was the Super Cup this year, when they lost 2-1 to Real Madrid.

Seville 1-1 Man United  —   United may be favourites but they come up against a Sevilla team with a great home record. United's recent good defensive record has not helped them in their last two league away games, but they have the firepower at the other end to ensure this one is still alive heading to Old Trafford.
